Cornnell Clarke

Der amerikanische Verlag NBM hat unter seinem Label "Amerotica" im Jahr 2003 erste Alben des noch junge Künstler Cornnell Clarke veröffentlicht. Er besticht in seiner ersten Alben der Reihe Peanut Butter: The Diary of Molly Frederickson durch einen gekonnten, wenn auch noch nicht perfekten Bleistift-Stil.

Was den Charme seiner Zeichnungen ausmacht ist die Wirkung auf den Leser. Nichts wirkt abgezeichnet oder nach (Foto-)Vorlage gearbeitet. Der zarte, leicht skizzenhafte Bleistiftstrich eignet sich jedoch hervorragend um die Geschichte, die als Tagebucheintragungen erzählt wird, visuell zu transportieren.

Oftmals fehlt es den einzelnen Comicseiten an Übersicht und Klarheit. Außerdem trüben einige zeichnerische "Anatomiesünden" den ansonst sehr guten Gesamteindruck.

Clarke zeichnet und arangiert die erotischen Szenen sehr explizit und abwechslungsreich.

Die Titelheldin Molly kann in ihren Tagebuch schon zu Beginn des ersten Albums von versauten Sexspielen berichten. Ganz normal, will man meinen, schließlich besucht sie eine katholische High School. Ein erster Erfahrungsaustausch mit den Mädchen findet auch sogleich auf der Schultoilette statt. Ihre beste Freundin Erica - weitaus erfahrener in den "Liebesdingen", bringt Molly recht schnell auf den Geschmack für weiterführende, private "Sex-Kurse" - und mit Erdnussbutter an und auf den "richtigen Stellen" "übt" es sich gleich doppelt so gut. Molly stellt zudem recht bald fest, das ihre unmittelbare Nachbarschaft auch ziemlich versaut zu sein scheint und wöchentlich zu heimlichen Sexorgien einläd. Sehr zur Freude Mollys lassen sich dort erlernte Erfahrungen schnell vertiefen und neue "Erkenntnisse" erwerben.

Sexuell gereift steht dem Schulabschluß bald nichts mehr im Weg. Auf der anschließenden Abschlußfeier lassen es die wenig sittsamen Mädchen dann ordentlich krachen.

In Band 2 erzählt Molly von ihren Erlebnissen in New York. Mit ihrer Freundin bezieht sie ein Apartment in Manhattan, um sich aufs College vorzubereiten und erlebt einen heißen und wilden Sommer. Dort wird nicht nur Mollys neuer Freund, sondern auch ein asiatisches Mädchen in die ausschweifenden Orgien einbezogen. Und wenn gar nicht mehr hilft, werden "Freiübungen" mit allerhand Spielzeug veranstaltet.

So sollte ein Studentenleben aussehen...

Mit Band 3 der "Peanut Butter"-Reihe (2008) hat Clarke seine Zeichentechnik verändert. Dem reinen Bleistiftstrich ist eine Kombination aus Strichzeichnung und Akzentuierung mittels Computer-Kolorierung gewichen. Die farbigen Seiten wirken gewachsener und moderner; obwohl der schwarz-weiß/graue Bleistiftstrich der ersten Bände durchaus seinen Charme hatte und eine optische "Aufgabe" erfüllte. Die Farbseiten des dritten Bandes transportieren das "Tagebuch"-Thema der Comicreihe ineffektiver; was auch daran liegen mag, das sein Umgang mit der Computer-Kolorierung damals noch für den Künstler Neuland war.

Mittlerweile wurden die ersten beiden - anfänglich schwarz-weiß gedruckten - "Peanut Butter"-Alben von Clarke nachbearbeitet und NBM Publishing hat diese in Farbe neu aufgelegt.

In Band 4 (2010) konnte Clarke seine Farbtechnik stark verbessern und wirkt im Gesamteindruck entscheidend reifer und ansprechender. Nun greift auch das Tagebuch-Szenario wieder besser. Ein lesenswerter Farbband, der optisch und inhaltlich Lust auf mehr macht.

Das Farb-Album "The Confessions of Sister Jacqueline" ist ein "Ableger" von Peanut Butter und erzählt von der gleichnamigen Nonne, die beim Abschlussball in Peanut Butter Band 1 vergewaltigt wurde.

The American publisher NBM released the first albums of the young artist Cornnell Clarke under his label "Amerotica" in 2003. In his first albums of the series Peanut Butter: The Diary of Molly Frederickson he captivates with a skillful, though not yet perfect pencil style.

What makes up the charm of his drawings is their impact on the reader. Nothing has an effect that is drawn or worked after (photo) presentation. The delicate, slightly sketchy pencil line is, however, ideally suited for the visual transport of the story, which is told as diary entries.

Often the individual comic pages lack clarity and clarity. In addition, some of the drawings' anatomy sins' clouded the otherwise very good overall impression.

Clarke draws and arranges the erotic scenes very explicitly and variedly.

The title heroine Molly can report dirty sex games in her diary already at the beginning of the first album. It's normal, you'd think, after all, she's attending a Catholic high school. An initial exchange of experiences with the girls will also take place immediately in the school lavatory. Her best friend Erica - far more experienced in the "love things", Molly quickly gets the taste for further, private "sex courses" - and with peanut butter and on the "right places" she "practices" it twice as well. Molly also soon realizes that her immediate neighborhood seems to be pretty dirty and invites you to secret sex orgies every week. To Molly's delight, the experience gained there can be rapidly deepened and new "realizations" can be acquired.

Sexually mature, nothing stands in the way of graduating from school. At the closing ceremony, the girls, who are not very modest, let it crash.

In Volume 2, Molly tells us about her experiences in New York. With her girlfriend, she moves into an apartment in Manhattan to prepare for college and experiences a hot and wild summer. There, not only Molly's new boyfriend, but also an Asian girl is included in the rambling orgies. And if it doesn't help at all,"free exercises" are held with all kinds of toys.

A student life should look like this...

With Volume 3 of the "Peanut Butter"series (2008), Clarke has changed his drawing technique. The pure pencil line has been replaced by a combination of line drawing and accentuation using computer colouring. The coloured pages look more mature and modern, although the black-white/grey pencil line of the first volumes certainly had its charm and fulfilled an optical "task". The colour pages of the third volume convey the "diary"theme of the comic series more ineffectively, which may be due to the fact that the artist's use of computer colouring was still unknown territory for him at the time.

Meanwhile, Clarke's first two - initially printed in black and white - "Peanut Butter"albums have been reworked and NBM Publishing has re-issued them in color.

In Volume 4 (2010), Clarke has been able to greatly improve his colour technique and appears much more mature and appealing in the overall impression. Now the diary scenario is working better again. A color ribbon worth reading that makes you want more in terms of appearance and content.

The colour album "The Confessions of Sister Jacqueline" is a "offshoot" of Peanut Butter and tells the story of the nun of the same name who was raped at the prom in Peanut Butter Volume 1.
